Can you receieve gifts for a wedding that took place at a courthouse?
Me and my fiance are getting married at the courthouse. We were wondering if it's possible to receive wedding gifts. I realize we should send cards out to family,friends, relatives etc to announce our marriage has occured but is it possible to in that note express we would like to receive gifts or not? I don't know what to do and of course wedding gifts would be lovely since we don't have much at our apartment.
Since you haven't gotten married yet, talk to someone close in the family about a bridal shower or honey-do party. You can even wait until after the ceremony to have it, especially since no one is invited to the courthouse. It's your best bet for gifts.
Also, if finances allow, plan for a reception - even just a small one at a friends house. Simple food, etc, and show your wedding and honeymoon pics around. Send announcements on the day you marry (have them printed and preaddressed to stick them in the mail that day.) This is your 2nd biggest way for gifts.
However, I'd refrain from asking for gifts on any invitations or announcements. It's tacky and in poor tastes. Many consider putting registry information tacky as well, but if you have a laid back family, it's probably no problem.
