Cheap ways to make curtains and a scarf for the windows?
I am moving into my new house and it is so expensive to buy curtains. I want it to have one panel on each side of the window and then a "scarf" draped across the top and hang down on the sides. Does anyone know how much fabric i need to measure or any tricks?
Check out the bargain material in the discounted section at fabric stores like JoAnne or Wal-Mart. You can make both your own side panels and swags. If you don't sew, use a glue made for fabric like FabricTac to make hems and a slide through pocket at the top of the panels and seams at the end of the swag. Choose a fabric for the swag that has a high synthetic fiber content because they drape better and are washable. Instead of using a white pocket rod, spend a little more money on a decorative one to use for both the swag and side panels. You can find an inexpensive selection at Big Lots (also check out their curtain section because now and again they pick up overstock from department stores which they heavily discount even cheaper than the discount fabric you find where I mentioned, but usually will find enough only to do one window).
