Indian sari fabric help please?
I've been shopping sarees online and don't know what fabric is best. The art silk seem very cheap does that mean they are heavy and uncomfortable. Having never worn a saree should I buy a cheap cotton printed just to try before investing in expensive party one?
I would suggest you go to a store near you and get the feel for how the fabrics feel like. Shopped with lot of people for their saris and this is the best way to do. Its very hard for 1st time buyers to buy saris online, because sometimes they will tell you its the really nice expensive one when it isn't and just by looking at it one can't really tell what it is. Also hopefully you have the blouse and under-skirt situation figured out if you buying it online.
Besides if you want some thing that is relatively comfortable and will give your body really good shape and flow around you I would suggest to try something in satin+cotton variety. Also go with less handwork cause that tends to make saris really heavy physically. Another thing about silk is that real silk needs really good handwork for it to look good and is quite expensive for 1st time wear. Also silk tends to give little bit puffy look instead of stylized and silk. I own a few saris and almost all of them are satin+cotton (I assume) cause the feel very soft and slinky when I wear them. The only down side to the satin one is that you need to pin them up really well otherwise it will start slipping of your body.
Hopefully this helps. But even in the end I would recommend that you go to actual shop to look at the fabrics and get a hang of it before buying anything online.
