I need party advice. Bollywood style!?
My 18th birthday is in january. My last party was when i was 7, and it was family.
This year i have the chance to do it right and I have a theme. Indian style. as in India. Not native american.
I dont have a sari but i know where to get one and i need as much help on decorating and food ideas as i can get. I get to do it myself and i dont know where to begin!

I think with regards to food, if you have a local indian restaurant, that catering the event will end up being cheap and more fun for you to worry about other things. Indian restaurants tend to have amazingly good prices on outside catering (under ten bucks a head).
If you have money to spend on decorating, ask a local indian what the local website is that advertises Indian vendors. For example, major cities have sulekha.com and others depending on the location. ONce you find the website, look for wedding vendors who do floral arrangements, they usually have a large variety of party equipment for sets and decorations.
Expect to negotiate their lowest price. Most Indians ask at least double what they are willing to accept or will at least give a discount. Never be afraid to ask.
You can probably do the whole thing for under 200 dollars this way.
If you want to go it yourself, you need the following:
tandoori chicken
cucumber raita
naan
dal
and buy some made in India cotton bed spreads and use them as backdrops and tapestries in your party room. These are often called sari or saree fabric on ebay. Invest in ten dollar moroccan or Indian lanterns and uplights to give the atmosphere a warmth to it.
A cheap Sari should not cost more than ten bucks, because in India you can get a cheap sari that LOOKS fancy for about 3-4 bucks,. You can buy them for your friends in a variety of colors.
