Cleaning a silk(??) doll dress?
So how can I (a) tell if it's real silk or just a polyester blend, and (b) determine if it's machine washable? My aunt got my daughter her very first porcelain doll(at a yard sale) and it has several age/nicotine stains on the front of the dress, that includes applique, ribbons, a rouched hemlin, and pale green bodice/sleeves covered by white lace, while the rest of the dress is white. All the tag says is "House of Loyd" and that it's specially made, handpainted with a custom dress. It's cute, but it's dirty. There even appear to have been some ink stains that were blotted out on the front. If I have to, I'll hand wash it very gently.
On a side note, I have a beautiful big doll that my aunt made the dress for out of a goodwill prom dress, her outfit needs a wash too, but I think it's real silk and held together by glue and safety pins more than anything so I'm terrified to try to clean her up. Lol.
Any wonder products that would be perfect for me?
Thanks!
You got it from a garage sale. Wash it by hand, in any detergent you choose. If it gets ruined, it gets ruined.
And IF the stains ARE tar, they won't come out with only detergent anyway
